MVP app development: from idea to a launched first version

A minimum viable product is the smallest version of your app that real users will pay for or keep. Our MVP engagements are built to find that version quickly, launch it, and learn from live usage rather than from assumptions.

We start with a Discover phase that cuts the idea down to the core loop, then design, build and submit to a fixed scope and budget. You get a store-live app, the analytics to judge it, and a plan for what comes next.

Because we launch our own products, we know what a first version needs that founders often skip: onboarding that converts, a paywall that is tested, crash reporting, and a listing that ranks.

Process

How the work runs

  1. 01

    Discover

We define the product, its users and the business case, audit any existing code or designs, and agree the scope, platform strategy and success metrics for the first release.

  2. 02

    Design

User flows, wireframes and a high-fidelity prototype: clickable for apps, playable for games. We test it with real users before production starts, so the build begins from validated screens and a core loop that is already fun.

  3. 03

    Build

Native or cross-platform, decided in Discover. Two-week sprints, a TestFlight or Play build at the end of each, automated tests and a CI pipeline from the first week.

  4. 04

    Launch and grow

Store listing, screenshots, review submission and release. After launch we run analytics, A/B tests on onboarding and paywalls, and a roadmap for the next versions.

FAQ

MVP app development questions

How do you decide what goes into the MVP?

In Discover we map the core loop: the one thing a user does repeatedly that creates value. Everything that does not serve that loop is deferred. The result is a written scope with acceptance criteria before design starts.

Is a fixed price possible for an MVP?

Yes, once scope is written. Our MVP engagements are fixed-scope and fixed-price, with change requests handled explicitly so the budget never moves without your sign-off.

What do we own at the end?

Everything: design files, source code in your repositories, backend and store accounts. You can continue with us, hire a team, or hand it to another vendor without friction.

Should an MVP be native or cross-platform?

Usually cross-platform or single-platform native, depending on where the first users are. Launching on one store first is often the fastest route to real data.
